Its octagonal bezel, integrated bracelet, and tapisserie-patterned dial, featuring overlapping square and circular guilloché patterns, combined with a stainless steel case—a rare find in luxury sports lines—offered a truly innovative look at the time. When it was first released, it was met with mixed reactions within the industry as a “heretical” model that deviated from watch design codes. The name comes from a fast battleship of the Royal Navy launched in 1914. Gérald Genta’s design was inspired by the windshields of professional divers’ helmets.
